Drakenstein Stud’s four-time G1 winning sire What A Winter came up with a smart-looking debut winner on Saturday, when his three-year-old daughter Girl Like Us won at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
Trained by Paul Reeves, Girl Like Us was given a superb ride by Joshwin Solomons, who split runners when bringing Girl Like Us home with a strong late rattle to claim Saturday’s Hollywoodbets Durbanville Country Series Restricted Maiden Plate (1250m) by a neck in a thrilling finish.
Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Girl Like Us is out of the Silvano mare Girl On The Run.
Girl Like Us hails from the same crop as graded stakes winners Distant Winter and Winter Cloud, as well as G1 Allan Robertson Championship third Elegant Ice.
Her sire What A Winter, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2020-2021, has made a good start to the current season and is currently fifth on the South African General Sires List.
The champion son of Western Winter has four two-year-olds on offer at the Cape Racing Ready To Run And Unbroken Two Year Old Sale, and a further six lots on the November Two Year Old Sale.
