Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire, and former Horse Of The Year, Futura has had an excellent run over the past week or so, and the champion son of Dynasty was once again in the spotlight at Kenilworth on Wednesday when supplying two more winners.
Futura’s first success on Wednesday came when his three-year-old son Tin Cup ran out a convincing winner of the third race, the www.caperacing.co.za Maiden Plate (1800m). The Andre Nel trained gelding powered home, under Jason Smitsdorff, to shed his maiden by three-parts of a length for owner-breeder Sabine Plattner.
Out of the Western Winter mare Zabrina, Tin Cup is closely inbred to former champion sire Western Winter.
The latter also ranks as the broodmare sire of Futura’s second winner on Wednesday -with Futura gelding Thefutureisbright landing Kenilworth’s fifth race, the Tabonline.co.za Classified Stakes (2400m) for trainer Justin Snaith and jockey Grant Van Niekerk. Bred by the Ndoro Stud, three-year-old Thefutureisbright, victorious for a second time on Wednesday, was trying the 2400m trip for a first time.
Futura’s outstanding sire Dynasty dominated proceedings at Kenilworth on Wednesday -between Dynasty and his sons Futura and Jackson they were responsible for four of the eight winners on the Kenilworth card.
Futura was also in the news last week, with his classy three-year-old daughter Light Of The Moon winning a good race at the Vaal and his exciting two-year-old daughter Ekoria romping away to a brilliant win in Friday’s Listed World Sports Betting Dahlia Plate.
