Drakenstein Stud’s champion resident sire Trippi continues to churn out eye catching winners, and the G1 winning son of End Sweep supplied two more smart looking winners at the Vaal on Tuesday.
Trippi’s two-year-old daughter Sweet Pepper made it two wins from two starts when victorious in Tuesday’s first race, the #ThisIsRacing Welcomes You Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1200m).
Under Calvin Habib, the Sean Tarry trained filly dug down deep in closing stages to score by half a length, with Sweet Pepper having scored by just over a length and three-quarters on her only other racetrack appearance.
Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Sweet Pepper is out of the Gimmethegreenlight mare Green Pepper and she is thus bred on the reverse cross as Saturday’s Listed KRA East Coast Cup heroine She’s A Keeper.
Sweet Pepper joins debut winner Charles Dickens as promising two-year-olds representing Trippi in 2021-2022 thus far.
Trippi also has an above average three-year-old to his credit in the form of Picture Perfect, who ran out a convincing winner of the eighth and final race, the Next Vaal Racemeeting Thursday 26 May MR 72 Handicap (1400m) , at the Vaal on Tuesday.
Trained by Weiho Marwing, Picture Perfect made it two wins from just four starts when storming home, under Dylan Lerena, to score a cosy neck victory.
Thought good enough to contest the G1 WSB SA Classic earlier in the season, Picture Perfect is out of the Mount Nelson mare Mohave Princess.
South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016, Trippi is also poised to make his mark in Saturday’s classic G1 Preakness Stakes -with his maternal grandson Not This Time sire of fancied Preakness Stakes contenders Epicenter and Simplification.
