Drakenstein Stud’s G1 Sun Met winning stallion One World came up with a second first crop winner on Saturday, when his two-year-old daughter Sahara Cat won at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
Trained, like One World, by Vaughan Marshall, Sahara Cat had finished second on her only previous start and duly built on that effort with a fine performance on Saturday.
Under Richard Fourie, Sahara Cat was always up with the pace in the Kaapse Klopse Summer Coronation Plate (Fillies) (1000m) and, when asked the question, quickened up smartly to win by two and a quarter lengths.
Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, Sahara Cat is out of the Western Winter mare Stormin Cat.
The filly was a R130 000 buy from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.
Sahara Cat joins Address The Nation as early winners for One World, Equus Champion Older Male of 2019-2020.
To date, the champion son of Captain Al has had just a handful of runners of which four have either won or finished in the money.
One World, who shares his legendary broodmare sire Giant’s Causeway with outstanding stallion Gun Runner, has six lots on offer at the 2024 Cape Racing Premier Yearling Sale Powered By Tattersalls.
