Drakenstein Stud’s prominent resident sire What A Winter had yet another big pay on Sunday when his three-year-old son Seeking The One defied a wide draw to capture the R600 000 The Ready To Run Stakes (1400m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
Trained by Brett Crawford, Seeking The One was given a superb ride by Louis Mxothwa, who did well to get his mount to overcome his draw of twelve.
Sent for home with 200m left to run, the Klawervlei Stud bred Seeking The One kept finding more in the closing stages and stayed on gamely to repel the well fancied Piroshka and score by a neck.
Out of the Count Dubois mare Schism, Seeking The One, who ran third on debut to the sensational Charles Dickens, has now won twice from just five starts with Sunday’s win pushing the colt’s earnings to R351 500.
South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2020-2021, and Leading First Season Sire of 2016-2017 , What A Winter is having another fine season in 2022-2023.
Currently third on the South African General Sires List, What A Winter’s growing list of flagbearers this season include not only Seeking The One, but also G2 Topbet Joburg Spring F and M Challenge winner Humdinger.
What A Winter has four lots on offer at the upcoming November Two Year Old Sale.
