Drakenstein Stud’s leading sire Trippi is responsible for a truly outstanding producer Miss Macy Sue.
The latter is already the dam of four stakes winners, and Miss Macy Sue’s four-year-old daughter Matera made it three in a row since joining trainer Brad Cox when she captured Sunday’s Groupie Doll Stakes at Ellis Park.
A four-year-old daughter of Tapit, Matera fought out a thrilling finish with eventual runner up Lady Kate, before she found a little extra to win by a neck.
Matera, whose previous wins included a score in the Mari Hulman George Memorial Stakes, has now won four of just seven starts.
She is a half-sister to a pair of promising stallions in the form of Liam’s Map (G1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, G1 Woodward Stakes), and Not This Time (G3 Iroquois Stakes), as well as to Any Limit Stakes heroine Taylor S.
Miss Macy Sue, who was bred to champion sire Into Mischief for 2022, was a top-class racemare whose 11 victories (six black type) included a triumph in the G3 Winning Colors Stakes.
Her sire Trippi, South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016, has more than made his mark as a broodmare sire and also ranks as the damsire of champion Gabor, and the likes of Miss Florida, Miss Sunset, She’s A Keeper and Sheela.
