Drakenstein Stud’s successful resident sire, and former Horse Of The Year, Futura has come up with a top-class stayer in the form of Future Pearl.
The latter claimed his third major win in 2022-2023 when he ran out a fluent winner of the G3 World Pool Gold Cup, run at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday, with Future Pearl having won both the G3 WSB Gold Bowl and G3 DStv Gold Vase earlier in the season.
A third Gold Cup winner for trainer Sean Tarry, Future Pearl became the first three-year-old since 2010 to win the Gold Cup.
The gelding was given a typically competent ride by the inform Richard Fourie, with Fourie setting his mount alight shortly after the field turned for home in Sunday’s R1 000 000.
Future Pearl produced a fine turn of foot and swooped down to pass stablemate Nebraas, eventually overtaken by subsequent runner up Arumugam, close home and went on to win impressively by nearly two and a half lengths.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Future Pearl was a R525 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.
The gelding has now won five of 14 outings for earnings of R1 192 625.
Future Pearl is one of six stakes winners for the four time G1 winning Futura in 2022-2023, with others including G3 Politician Stakes winner Rockpool, and the likes of Dawnofanewday, Future Girl and Thefutureisbright.
Futura, whose progeny have earned more than R5.6 million in 2022-2023, has seven lots on offer at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale including a half-brother (Lot 34) to 2023 G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July winner Winchester Mansion.
