Drakenstein Stud’s four time G1 winning stallion, and former Horse Of The Year, Futura has some very smart three-year-olds representing him this season, and the champion son of Dynasty struck yet again when Futura filly Ekoria ran out a convincing winner of the Listed Breeders Guineas (1600m), run at Fairview on Friday.
Winner of the 2022 Listed WSB Dahlia Plate, Ekoria was given a confident ride by JP Van Der Merwe.
Full of running, the Gavin Smith trained filly burst into the lead 200m from home and kicked away smartly to win as she liked by a length and a quarter.
Ekoria has now won four of just nine starts for her connections, with the filly having finished second in all three of her last three races prior to the Breeders Guineas.
The filly was a R260 000 purchase from the 2021 August Two Year Old Sale.
Bred by Maine Chance Farms, three-year-old Ekoria is out of the Silvano mare Equina and she hails from the same family as Futura himself.
She is one of 11 stakes winners for Futura thus far, with the champion’s daughters also including G2 Track And Ball Oaks winner Pink Tourmaline, G1 Woolavington 2000 runner up Light Of The Moon, champion Dindingwe and G3 Poinsettia Stakes queen Vihaan’s Pie.
