Drakenstein Stud’s Selangor Cup winning sire Gold Standard looks to have come up with a very smart performer in his first crop in the form of exciting filly Gold Poker Game.
The latter made it two wins from just four starts with a smart win at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday afternoon.
Stepping up to a mile for a first time on Wednesday, three-year-old Gold Poker Game clearly relished the extra distance with a professional performance in the race.
Despite having coughed earlier in the week, Gold Poker Game hit the front 200m from home and powered clear to win the Hollywoodbets Punters Challenge FM 72 Handicap (1600m) impressively by a length and a quarter.
Trained by Candice Bass-Robinson, the Drakenstein Stud bred and owned filly, yet to finish out of the first three, looks bound for feature races later in the season.
Gold Poker Game, who is out of the Skip Away mare Skip Poker, is one of several very smart fillies to have emerged from Gold Standard’s first crop. This small first crop also includes the classy Golden Hostess -who finished a close up, and unlucky fourth, in the recent G2 Western Cape Fillies Championship and Hold My Hand. The latter was beaten less than a length when fourth, behind champion Canadian Summer, in last season’s G1 Thekwini Stakes.
By the same sire as current three-year-old sensation Charles Dickens as well as reigning Equus Champion Jet Dark, Gold Standard has four lots on offer at this month’s November Two Year Old Sale.
