Drakenstein Stud’s four time G1 winning stallion Futura continues to make a big impression as a sire, and the former South African Horse Of The Year came up with another eye catching winner when his son Xavion made a winning debut on Saturday.
A two-year-old colt bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Xavion showed his class when making an impressive debut at Kenilworth.
Under Anthony Andrews, the Candice Bass-Robinson trained colt outclassed his rivals when romping home to win the www.caperacing.co.za Maiden Plate (1000m) by three and a half lengths.
Out of the Tamburlaine mare Sharp Mistress, Xavion was one of five two-year-old winners for Futura last season.
The colt joins the likes of G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe runner up AJ’s Captain and the likes of Tinder Dry and Vida Futura as promising three-year-olds for Futura in 2021-2022.
One of the very best sons of outstanding sire Dynasty, Futura made a tremendous start at stud, with his seven first crop stakes horses headed by the graded stakes winners Nourbese, Vihaan’s Pie and Warrior as well as Zimbabwe champion Dindingwe.
The champion has seven lots on offer at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale.
