BACK TO BACK WINS FOR ONE WORLD

5 July 2024

Drakenstein Stud’s sensational sire One World made waves on the racetrack and in the sales ring on Thursday. Not only did One World top the sires’ table at the 2024 KZN Yearling Sale, but his son Grand Crescendo made a big impression when winning at the Vaal on Thursday.

Trained by Candice Dawson, Grand Crescendo made it back-to-back wins when landing the eighth and final race at the Vaal in eye-catching fashion. Under Gavin Lerena, the One World gelding powered home to land the Next Vaal Racemeeting Tuesday 23 July MR 73 Handicap (1400m) by a facile three-and-a-quarter lengths.

Grand Crescendo, who has now won twice from just four starts, was bred by Drakenstein Stud.

The gelding, who had won his maiden by a length and a half last time, is out of the Western Winter mare Sing Dixie Sing.

Grand Crescendo was a R300 000 purchase from the 2023 National Yearling Sale.

His G1 Sun Met winning sire One World also made his presence felt at Thursday’s KZN Sale, where the son of Captain Al led the Sires Standings.
One World, whose yearlings made up to R700 000 on Thursday, had 12 lots on offer and all 12 sold, with One World yearlings grossing R4 115 000.

One World has consistently enjoyed sales ring success this year, with his Drakenstein Stud consigned colt out of Cape Bluebell making R1 000 000 at June’s Cape Racing Winter Yearling Sale, and two One World colts making R900 000 apiece at this year’s Cape Yearling Sale.
