ONE WORLD COLT LANDS L’ORMARINS KING’S PLATE

4 January 2025

Drakenstein Stud’s rising star sire One World looks to have come up with a real champion in the form of One Stripe.

The latter collected his second straight G1 win and downed a top-class field of older rivals when he won the G1 L’Ormarins King’s Plate (1600m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.

Trained, like his sire and grandsire Captain Al, by Vaughan Marshall, One Stripe showed his class with a decisive win in Saturday’s R3 000 000 feature.
Under a confident Gavin Lerena, One Stripe struck the front 200m from home and powered away to score impressively by a length and three quarters.

Winner of the recent G1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas, One Stripe took his earnings to R4 161 763 with his L’Ormarin’s King’s Plate victory.
In the process, One Stripe (who made amends for his sire’s defeat in the same race back in 2020) booked himself a berth for the $2 million G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile.

Bred by Drakenstein Stud, One Stripe has won six of eight starts, with his six wins including five at graded level.

One Stripe, who is out of the Silvano mare Silver Stripe, was the R1 400 000 top lot sold at the 2023 Cape Racing Sales Ready To Run & Unbroken Two Year Old Sale.

His sire One World, who had no fewer than seven runners on L’Ormarins King’s Plate day, went close to having a graded race double on Saturday. One World’s promising filly Roccapina showed her class when storming home to finish a close-up second in Saturday’s G2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes and it won’t be long, surely, before Roccapina provides her sire with yet another black type success.

South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2023-2024, One World is the country’s Leading Second Season Sire for this season.

The Met winning champion has seven lots on offer at this month’s Summer Sale, including a colt (Lot 28) out of high-class racemare Magic School, and a colt (Lot 29) out of a G3 winning daughter of Vercingetorix.
