Drakenstein Stud’s top-class stallion What A Winter looks to have another smart sort to his name in the form of Connery.
On Wednesday, the latter made it four wins in a row when victorious at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Under Nirvan Nastili, four-year-old Connery was always up with the pace in Wednesday’s WSB Club Prive MR 94 Handicap (1200m).
When asked the question, the Glen Kotzen-trained gelding kicked away smartly to score convincingly by nearly a length and a half.
Wednesday’s race was good for What A Winter, with Connery beating fellow What A Winter son Winter Games into second place.
Bred by Ten Einde Farm, Connery is out of the Captain Al mare Jo’s Bond.
His four-time G1 winning sire What A Winter had gone close to enjoying feature race success on Monday when his high-class daughter Elegant Ice ran a close-up second in the Listed Betway National Colour Stakes.
South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2016-2017 and Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2019-2020, What A Winter made international headlines this year when his champion son Isivunguvungu, victorious in the 2024 Da Hoss Stakes at Colonial Downs, contested the G1 Prevagen Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
