Drakenstein Stud’s sensational young stallion One World continues to impress, and the champion son of Captain Al was at it again when coming up with a pair of winners over the weekend.
One World only had three runners over the weekend, but two won, and his other starter, World Of Alice, ran second at Turffontein on Sunday.
September Flower became One World’s 26th individual first-crop winner when she saluted at Fairview on Friday. The Alan Greeff-trained two-year-old had finished third on debut before finishing second last time out, and September Flower was duly sent off favourite for Friday’s Nomads Eastern Cape Maiden Juvenile Plate (1100m). Under Richard Fourie, September Flower stayed on gamely to win by half a length.
Bred by Boland Stud, September Flower is out of the Dynasty mare Pretty Wendy.
One World is also the sire of smart two-year-old Chocolate Soldier, who won a good race at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Hollywoodbets Durban July day. The Corne Spies trained gelding was given a well-timed ride by Marco Van Rensburg, who bought his mount with a late flourish to get up and win the Gagasi FM- MR 90 Handicap (1000m) by just over three parts of a length.
Bred by Ian Van Schalkwyk, Chocolate Soldier was making it back to back wins, with the son of One World having won his previous start by four lengths.
Chocolate Soldier, who is out of the Pathfork mare Secret Star, has now won three of seven starts.
His red-hot sire One World had also enjoyed success at the Vaal on Thursday where his promising son Grand Crescendo scored by three and a quarter lengths.
South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire and Leading Sire of 2YOs for 2023-2024, One World is on course to set a new South African record for individual two-year-old winners by a single stallion in a season.
