Drakenstein Stud’s red-hot young sire One World was responsible for the top lot sold at Thursday’s Cape Racing Winter Yearling Sale, which took place at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
The sales topping One World colt One Cape (Lot 95) was knocked down to Gina Goldsmith for R1 000 000 to top the 2024 Winter Sale.
Consigned to the auction by Drakenstein Stud, the sales topping colt is out of the winning Trippi mare Cape Bluebell, a daughter of G3 Champagne Stakes winner State Blue (by National Assembly).
One World ended the sale as Leading Sire by Aggregate and had six yearlings sell for a gross total of R2 470 000. His yearlings averaged an impressive R411 667 at Thursday’s sale.
It was not, however, the first time that the Met-winning son of Captain Al has made waves in a sales ring this year.
A pair of One World colts made R900 000 apiece to jointly top the Cape Yearling Sale earlier in 2024, while One World yearlings made up to R1 400 000 at the 2024 National Yearling Sale.
South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire and Leading Sire of 2YOs for 2023-2024, One World has already come up with 20 individual two-year-old winners in his first crop, including G3 City Of Cape Town Cape Of Good Hope Nursery/G3 Winter Nursery winner One Stripe and Listed Somerset 1200 hero Lion Rampart.
The champion son of Captain Al has 12 lots on offer at the upcoming KZN Yearling Sale.
