WORLD SPORTS BETTING 1900 WIN FOR FUTURA

12 May 2024

Drakenstein Stud’s four-time G1 winning stallion Futura was the toast of Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday. Not only did Futura’s son Future Swing win Saturday’s G2 World Sports Betting 1900 (1900m), his daughter Future Girl was just touched off when second in Saturday’s Listed KRA East Coast Cup (2000m).

Trained by Justin Snaith, four-year-old Future Swing claimed the third black-type win of his career when he won Saturday’s R500 000 contest. The gelding had previously won both the G3 Glorious Goodwood Chairman’s Cup and Listed Jonsson Workwear Algoa Cup earlier this season.

Under record-chasing rider Richard Fourie, Future Swing stormed home to get up and score a courageous long-neck win, while accounting for such graded stakes winners as Master Redoute, Mucho Dinero, Without Question, Atticus Finch and champion Safe Passage.

Bred by his part-owners Drakenstein Stud, Future Swing is out of the Trippi mare Carousel Swing. The gelding was a R600 000 purchase from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.

His win on Saturday took Future Swing’s tally to seven wins from 18 starts and his earnings to R1 121 100.

The gelding is bred on the increasingly successful Futura/Trippi cross, also responsible for producing such stakes winners as Pink Tourmaline, Vihaan’s Pie, Sweet Future, Dawnofanewday and Future Girl.

South Africa’s Horse Of The Year, Champion Older Male and Champion Middle Distance Horse Of 2014-2015, Futura is also responsible for the smart performer Battleground, third in the recent G3 TAB Gold Bowl while Futura’s champion Dindingwe captured the Listed Breeders Champion Cup earlier this year.
