9TH WINNER FOR ONE WORLD

4 April 2024

Drakenstein Stud’s red-hot young sire One World came up with his ninth first-crop winner when his two-year-old son Don’t Cry For Me won the first race run at the Vaal on Thursday.

Runner-up on his only previous start, the Sean Tarry-trained Don’t Cry For Me was given a superb ride by Piere Strydom to land the 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m).

Strydom took his mount to the front, as Don’t Cry For Me went off to make the running. The colt appeared beaten close home but fought back gamely and got up to win a good race by half a length.

Don’t Cry For Me finished a good eight lengths clear of third-place finisher Serrano and he looks to be another great advertisement for his sire.

Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Don’t Cry For Me is out of the What A Winter mare Mar Del Sur.

Don’t Cry For Me was a R375 000 buy from the 2023 August Two Year Old Sale.

His G1 Sun Met winning sire One World has had another fine week during the past seven days, with the champion son of Captain Al the sire of Lion Rampart and Kaiboy, who ran first and second respectively in the third race at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday.

The champion is also the sire of One More who impressed when making a winning debut at the Vaal last Thursday.

Equus Champion Older Male of 2019-2020, One World, whose first three dams were sired by Giant’s Causeway, Caerleon and Top Ville respectively, has an excellent draft on offer at the upcoming National Yearling Sale.
One World’s yearlings on offer include a half-brother (Lot 40) to G3 Final Fling Stakes winner Love Is A Rose, a filly (Lot 53) out of G1 winner Bambina Stripes, a colt (Lot 277) out of a stakes placed full-sister to G1 Golden Slipper winner Chestnuts N Pearls, and a filly (Lot 290) bred on similar lines to the Captain Al sired G2 winning dam of champion Princess Calla.
