Drakenstein Stud’s outstanding young stallion One World came up with an eighth first-crop winner on Thursday when his two-year-old son One More made a winning debut at the Vaal.
Trained by Lucky Houdalakis, the gelded One More showed his class when he ran out a convincing winner of the Champions Day 6 April Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m) on Thursday.
One More, under Craig Zackey, made a big impression at the Vaal when he stormed home to win convincingly by a length and a half. It was a smart performance from One More who appeared very green in the race.
The race was great for One World, whose sons One More and Gorgeous Klein ran first and second respectively.
Bred by Riverton Stud, One More is out of the Trippi mare Durban Bourbon.
The gelding was a R320 000 purchase from the 2023 KZN Yearling Sale. His sire’s other early winners include the likes of One Stripe and Lion Rampart -who ran first and fourth respectively in the G3 City Of Cape Town Cape Of Good Hope Nursery.
Currently both the Leading First Season and Leading Sire of 2YOs in South Africa for the 2023-2024 season, One World has now been responsible for 18 runners who have either won or finished in the money.
The former Equus Champion, and 2020 G1 Sun Met winner, has an exciting draft on offer at this year’s National Yearling Sale, where One World has yearlings for sale out of such high-class racemares as Bambina Stripes, Magic Penny, and Statute, with One World also represented by half-siblings to the likes of Love Is A Rose, Monks Hood, Prophet, She’s A Giver, and Thefutureisbright.
One World had made news earlier this year when two of his sons made R900 000 to top the Cape Yearling Sale jointly.
