Drakenstein Stud’s bang inform stallion What A Winter has a great record in the G3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery and the multiple G1 winner struck again in the race, when What A Winter fillies Winter Cloud and Distant Winter finished 1-2 in Saturday’s G3 City Of Cape Town Cape Of Good Hope Nursery (1200m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
A full-sister to dual G1 Majorca Stakes winner Clouds Unfold (who herself won the Cape Of Good Hope Nursery in 2018), Winter Cloud had finished sixth on debut before winning impressively at her only subsequent start.
The daughter of What A Winter built on that maiden success when running out a convincing winner on Saturday.
Under Grant Van Niekerk, Winter Cloud powered home to land the 2023 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery by a length and a quarter with her paternal half-sister, and stablemate, Distant Winter finishing a creditable second.
Trained by Candice Bass-Robinson, Winter Cloud has now won twice from just three starts.
The filly, who is out of the Montjeu mare Montelissima, races for her breeder Drakenstein Stud.
Winter Cloud is the fourth What A Winter sired runner to land the G3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery and follows in the footsteps of Dutch Philip (2017), Clouds Unfold (2018) and Armando (2019).
South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2020-2021, What A Winter is having another excellent year this season with the multiple Equus Champion also responsible for this season’s graded stakes winning fillies Humdinger and Miss Cool.
