Drakenstein Stud’s increasingly successful resident sire, and former Horse Of The Year, Futura looks to have a hugely exciting prospect on his hands in the form of progressive three-year-old Rockpool.
The latter successfully took a step up in class, and made it three wins in a row, when he ran out a convincing winner of the G3 Politician Stakes (1800m), run at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
Under Richard Fourie, the Justin Snaith trained colt stormed home down the inside of the track to land the 2023 Politician Stakes by half a length, while stamping himself a likely G1 Cape Derby contender in the process.
Bred by Ndoro Stud, Rockpool is out of the Jallad mare Miss Delish and is a full-brother to Zimbabwe champion, and multiple stakes winner, Dindingwe.
The son of Futura has now won three of just six starts and won’t stop here.
Rockpool joins the likes of Le Morne (3rd G3 Cape Punters Cup), the progressive Future Swing and World Sports Betting Dahlia Plate victress Ekoria as classy sorts to have emerged from Futura’s current crop of three-year-olds.
From the same female line as recent G3 Three Troikas Stakes winner Miss Cool, Futura also made waves at the recent Cape Premier Yearling Sale Powered by Tattersalls, where his yearlings fetched up to R800 000.
The champion is set to be represented by Warrior in the 2023 G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met.
