What A Winter colts Seeking The One and Stratospheric dominated the finish to Saturday’s first race, the www.wsb.co.za Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m), finishing first and second.
Bred by Klawervlei Stud, two-year-old Seeking The One had put up a smart effort when he ran third on his only previous start and he duly justified favouritism with a fine effort on Saturday.
Under Louis Mxothwa, the Brett Crawford trained colt spreadeagled his field, with Seeking The One drawing clear in the closing stages to score as he liked by two and a quarter lengths.
Out of the Count Dubois mare Schism, Seeking The One was a R200 000 buy from the 2021 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
He is the 13th two-year-old winner for his sire this season, with What A Winter’s other notable juveniles in 2021-2022 including G2 Heineken SA Nursery winner Miss Cool.
What A Winter, the Leading Sire of 2YOs, by stakes, in 2020-2021, had further success on Saturday when his Candice Bass-Robinson trained daughter Ma Black defied 60kgs to land the eighth race on the card.
The Rex Stud bred four-year-old beat fellow What A Winter daughter Chilly Winter by two and a quarter lengths, with yet another What A Winter Seeking Peace finishing fourth.
A winner of four of six starts this season, Ma Black has now won five times in total.
Currently second on the general sires list, What A Winter has two colts on the upcoming CTS Farm Yearling Sale.
