Drakenstein Stud’s evergreen sire Trippi has another high-class crop of three-year-olds this season, and the former South African champion sire produced another exciting sophomore prospect when his son Winchester Mansion made a winning debut at Durbanville on Tuesday afternoon.
Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, the Trippi colt received a well timed ride by the inform Louis Mxothwa.
Mxothwa brought his mount with a stirring late run, which saw Winchester Mansion get up in the shadow of the post to claim Tuesday’s Champion Juvenile Colt Ambiorix/Juvenile Filly Kailene Maiden Plate (1250m) by a head over well regarded Snitzel colt Veldskoen.
Trained by Brett Crawford, Winchester Mansion is out of the Spectrum mare Sea Point and he is from the same immediate family as Trippi’s Listed World Sports Betting Somerset 1200 winning son of last season, Trip Of Fortune.
The latter is one of several notable three-year-olds representing Trippi this season, with others including G3 Strelitzia Stakes heroine Sound Of Warning, and the promising Listed Irridescence Stakes runner up Amanzimtoti.
Sire of last season’s dual Equus Champion Jet Dark, Trippi is currently responsible for more than 160 black type horses with his progeny having earned in excess of $62 million.
