Drakenstein Stud’s champion sire Trippi had a fantastic season in 2020-2021, and the G1 winning son of End Sweep came up with another promising winner when his son Pacaya made a winning debut at Kenilworth on Tuesday.
Bred by Drakenstein, three-year-old Pacaya was given a well timed ride by S’Manga Khumalo as the pair teamed up to win Tuesday’s first race, the Welcome To Cape Racing Maiden Plate (1000m).
Defying a tardy start, the Justin Snaith trained Pacaya came with a late rattle which saw the regally bred three-year-old get up close home and go away to win by a length and a half.
Out of the Black Minnaloushe mare Ash Cloud, Pacaya was a R600 000 buy from the 2020 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
He is one of several promising three-year-olds representing Trippi, South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016, this season.
Others include G3 Strelitzia Stakes winner Sound Of Warning, Irridescence Stakes runner up Amanzimtoti, and the hugely exciting Listed World Sports Betting Somerset 1200 winner Trip Of Fortune.
The sire of more than 80 stakes winners, Trippi has a single lot on offer at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale.
