Drakenstein Stud’s evergreen champion sire Trippi came up with his 85th stakes winner when his three-year-old daughter Santa Maria ran out a facile winner of the Listed Lady’s Pendant (1200m) at Fairview racecourse on Friday.
A well backed favourite, following good efforts in both the G2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes (4th) and G2 WSB Live Casino Southern Cross (3rd), the Candice Bass-Robinson trained filly more than lived up to expectations in Friday’s sprint feature.
Despite taking a misstep close home, Santa Maria powered clear, under Grant Van Niekerk, to land the 2022 Lady’s Pendant by an emphatic two lengths.
Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Santa Maria has now won four of just ten starts, with the filly having finished third in both the Listed World Sports Betting Perfect Promise Sprint and Listed Tabonline.co.za Irridescence Stakes as a two-year-old.
Out of the Fort Wood mare Cutty Sark, Santa Maria is bred on the same Trippi/Fort Wood cross as G1 winner Real Princess and talented sprinter Mombela.
She is one of a growing number of high-class performers to have emerged from Trippi’s current crop of three-year-olds with this crop also including the graded stakes winners Amanzimtoti, Sound Of Warning, and Trip Of Fortune.
South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016, Trippi is also responsible for recent repeat G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Jet Dark.
The G1 winning son of End Sweep has a single lot on offer at Sunday’s Cape Yearling Sale.
